Strengthening partnership to advance disability Rights in Africa (SPADRA Project)
The SPADRA project is led by the Pan-African Consortium, comprising the African Disability Forum (ADF), Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA), and Inclusion Africa (IA). The project aims to advance gender and disability rights in Africa, starting in Benin, Ghana, Malawi, and Zambia, through strengthening OPDs' capacity, establishing cross-disability and mainstream partnerships at both Pan-African and national levels, and modernizing and implementing legal frameworks at the community level.
During its Inception Phase, concluding in December 2024, SPADRA effectively established a robust consortium, enhancing resources and technical capabilities. Key milestones included the development of operational frameworks and significant legal and policy engagement at international forums.
Building on this foundation, the Main Phase of SPADRA is organized around three strategic objectives:
- Enhance the capacities of the Pan-African Consortium of African OPDs across four domains: ADF Capacity Development, empowering female leaders with disabilities in advocacy efforts, implementing comprehensive MEAL systems, and amplifying media outreach strategies.
- Advance the Rights of Women with Disabilities by shaping continental and national agendas on gender and disability and strengthening legal frameworks in the four target countries.
- Manage and Leverage Knowledge and lessons learned from the SPADRA Program to enhance community engagement, ensuring sustainable impact and empowerment at the grassroots level.
