Who We Are

Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA) is a pan-African, women-led and disability-led regional network established in 2002. We are committed to confronting and transforming the deeply rooted and intersectional discrimination faced by women and girls with disabilities across the continent.

From grassroots mobilization to international advocacy, DIWA brings together national and regional organizations from Central, East, West, North, and Southern Africa—amplifying one powerful collective voice for inclusion, rights, and gender equality.

Originally a subcommittee under the Pan African Federation of the Disabled (PAFOD), DIWA gained full independence and was formally registered in Malawi in 2012 under the Trustees Incorporation Act.
