Increasing Awareness on the Rights of Women with Disabilities in Malawi (IARWAM)

The IARWAM project is a six-month intervention designed to increase awareness, understanding, and respect for the rights of women and girls with disabilities through participatory community theatre, mass media engagement, and the distribution of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials. The project targeted 3 districts (Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Mzuzu)
Project objectives
- Raise public awareness about the right of women with disabilities at community and national levels.
- Combat harmful stereotypes and stigma by amplifying the voices and lived experiences of women with disabilities through storytelling, media, and community dialogues.
The outcomes include:
- Improved awareness and positive community attitudes toward the rights of women with disabilities in targeted districts.
- Harmful stereotypes and stigma surrounding women with disabilities are reduced as their voices and lived experiences are visibly amplified through inclusive storytelling and media engagement.
